Introducing Our First Book: Nurturing Whole Health — You, Your Baby, and God in the First Year

By: Nicole Lea, RN, CPNP

Are you looking for practical guidance, rooted in faith, that helps you nurture your child’s health, care for your own, and know which advice you can truly trust?
If so, you’re not alone and this book was written with you in mind.

The first year of motherhood is filled with new experiences, shifting responsibilities, and countless decisions. Breastfeeding or pumping? What’s normal for newborn sleep? Which sources should you trust for vaccine and immunization information? What child care option best fits your family? How do you balance life as a working mom—or as a mom at home? And how do you care for your own well-being in the midst of it all?

You deserve guidance that is clear, trustworthy, encouraging, and grounded in both clinical expertise and faith. That is the heart of our first book:
Nurturing Whole Health: You, Your Baby, and God in the First Year.

Whole-Health Guidance, Not Noise

This book is written by moms, for moms. We are women who desire to nurture whole health (physical, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual) for themselves and their children, rooted in God’s truth and love.

The book’s foundation is the great commandment:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30)

Loving God in this way shapes how we mother, make decisions, and care for our own well-being. With this commandment at its center, Nurturing Whole Health equips mothers to face each day with confidence while caring for themselves and their children. Growth occurs in faith, hope, and love, not pressure, comparison, or perfectionism.

The Four Pillars of Whole Health

This book rests on four essential pillars:

1. Spiritual Health

Your grounding and direction—what steadies you throughout the first year and always.

2. Physical Health

Evidence-based pediatric guidance that supports both you and your baby.

3. Emotional Health

Understanding your emotions and your baby’s, and learning how to respond with gentleness and resilience.

4. Mental (Cognitive) Health

Strengthening your ability to learn, discern, decide, and trust your instincts.

Together, these pillars help mothers feel balanced, confident, and informed—rather than overwhelmed or uncertain.

What’s Inside: Evidence-Based, Faith-Grounded Support

• Feeding Your Baby (Breastfeeding, Pumping, Bottle Feeding)

Simple explanations, practical tips, and encouragement for every feeding journey.

• Sleep Basics and Safe Sleep

A calm, reassuring approach to help families understand what “normal” really looks like.

• Vaccine and Immunization Decisions

Reliable, science-based information framed with moral and ethical clarity.

• Child Care Considerations

Support for discerning options that fit your values, lifestyle, and unique needs—whether at home, with family, or through professional child care.

• Navigating Motherhood as a Working Mom

Practical guidance for balancing schedules, pumping, meetings, and transitions—without guilt.

• Your Own Health: Physical, Emotional, Cognitive, and Spiritual

Because when mothers thrive, families thrive.

Each chapter ends with a brief reflection to take a moment to pause, breathe, and reconnect to what matters.

Two Clinicians Committed to Supporting Families

A pediatric nurse practitioner and founder of Hello Eema, Nicole Lea, RN, MSN, CPNP, together with pediatrician and contributing author Kathryn Italia, MD, blend nursing and medical science with their Catholic faith and experiences as moms to accompany you. Our goal? To unite faith and clinical wisdom to help moms confidently care for God’s children.

Created with Intention and Care

This book did not appear overnight. While the writing was a three-year journey, the content began taking shape years earlier as I taught and guided mothers in the pediatric clinical setting. From those early moments, the desire to understand whole health, nurture children well, and support other moms took root.

Over time, God nurtured, pruned, stretched, and grew those early ideas into the book and website you see today—through years of pediatric practice; meeting fellow mothers, families, and Catholic women whose stories shaped my understanding; witnessing the real challenges moms face in the first year; drawing from personal lived experience; and discovering how faith and clinical wisdom come together in meaningful, practical ways.

It’s no surprise that many mothers today are turning toward whole-health approaches. Modern motherhood is often filled with noise, comparison, contradictory advice, and the pressure to “do it all.” Again and again, mothers express that they simply want:

  • information that’s accurate and calm,

  • support that honors their values,

  • and guidance that helps them care for both their baby and themselves.

That is exactly what this book delivers.

A Launch Honoring Mary’s Immaculate Conception

The decision to release this book on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception was purposeful.
Mary is the only perfect mother—and in her perfect motherhood, she reminds us of something freeing: we do not have to be perfect to be loving, wise, or capable.

Mary sees us and loves us.
She desires to gently guide us as we learn, grow, and care for our own children.

Choosing her feast day honors her steadiness, faithful obedience, and joyful trust.
It also reflects the heart of this project:

Motherhood is beautifully human, incredibly meaningful, and supported by grace that meets us in our real, everyday lives.
